Speedway Indiana - The Race is On in Indianapolis

For most of the world, The Indianapolis 500 is held the Sunday before Memorial Day. For those of us who live in Indy, May is race month. The whole month offers a variety of festivals, parades, breakfast, autograph sessions, and of course there is plenty of fast cars and parties.

When I was growing up, we lived close enough we could hear the roar of the engines from our home. It was and is an exciting time in Indy. I was never one who enjoyed the party scene in the field, but I have heard of some very crazy things happening there. I really liked the drivers and always had my favorites who I wanted to win. This year will be no different for me.

It's hard to believe next weekend is the start of qualifications. We are geared up and ready for the race fans.

Speedway Indiana - Home of the Indianapolis 500

Race carIt may come as a surprise to some, but the Indianapolis 500 is not held in Indianapolis. Since 1926, when Speedway Incorporated, the entire Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been located within the town limits of Speedway, Indiana.

The town of Speedway is located in Wayne Township, in Marion County on the western side of Indianapolis. They have their own police, fire and city officials.

Getting around and through town requires some creative routes and time schedules for the residents of Speedway. You will find many who allow the race crowd to park in their yards, for a price, of course. This could be big bucks for the month!  

The town officials have restrictive parking for qualifications and race day parking. Be sure to check before parking anywhere in Speedway.
