It may come as a surprise to some, but the Indianapolis 500 is not held in Indianapolis. Since 1926, when Speedway Incorporated, the entire Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been located within the town limits of Speedway, Indiana.
The town of Speedway is located in Wayne Township, in Marion County on the western side of Indianapolis. They have their own police, fire and city officials.
Getting around and through town requires some creative routes and time schedules for the residents of Speedway. You will find many who allow the race crowd to park in their yards, for a price, of course. This could be big bucks for the month!
The town officials have restrictive parking for qualifications and race day parking. Be sure to check before parking anywhere in Speedway.
